Beauty Tip: 5 Steps To Flawless Foundation

Beauty Tip: 5 Steps To Flawless Foundation

Growing up, I never had perfect skin.  I still struggle with break-outs on a regular basis.  So very early on, even before I became a makeup artist, I made it a mission to find the best products and techniques for perfecting my skin.  Below are a few tips and basic steps I use everyday, on myself, as well as on my clients.

1. Prep Your Skin

This is the most important step.  Properly prepping your skin sets the base for your makeup.  I prep the skin by cleansingmoisturizing, then applying eye-lidunder-eye and face primer

2. Use the right tools

I used to use only a foundation brush.  Now, after another makeup artist encouraged me to try it, I use my beauty blender.  It doesn't streak and its pointed tip blends in hard-to-reach spots around your nose and eyes.

Tip: Use the beauty blender wet for a lighter application.

 3. Foundation

It is important to find the right foundation for your skin type.  Visit a makeup counter to try out different options.  It may take a few visits or purchases to find exactly the right colour and type for your complexion.  Be patient!  With today's product selection, whether it is a bb creamtinted moisturizer or foundation, there is something for everyone.

 4. Conceal

5. Set

Conceal after foundation.  This way you are only concealing what hasn't been covered by the previous steps.  This keeps your makeup looking soft and avoids it looking caked on.  For the delicate eye area use either a wider concealer brush or your finger for a light application.

Set with powder to help keep everything in place and avoid shininess, always set with a powder.  I prefer a loose setting powder, however, a pressed powder is great and much more convenient for carrying around in your bag.

What are your favourite foundation products?  Let me know in the comments below.
